As Luck Would Have It

Daala

Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters or the plot in this story, they're Joss Whedon's. I am simply borrowing them for entertainment purposes.
Distribution: Sure... just ask first(I'll probably say yes) and tell me where it's going.
Author's Notes: This one is from Angel's POV at the beginning of "Surprise" when Buffy comes over to his house in the morning. It's sort of like setting the mood for my next POV, the end of "Surprise," where I am going to do it both from Buffy and Angel's POV. Please let me know what you think. And thanks to everyone who gave me wonderful feedback on my other stories.
And by the way, I found something that Buffy said in this part weird, but I went along with it. When she says that they never found Dru's body... don't vamps turn to ash when they die?

I was just about ready to go to bed when I heard a knock on my door. I turned around, surprised. No one came to my door, and especially not this early.

"Hold on!" I called out as I made my way over to the door. I reached the door and pulled it open to find Buffy standing on the other side. I sensed her worry immediately. "Hey. Is everything OK?" I asked her.

"That's what I was gonna ask you," she said. "You're OK, right?"

"Sure, I... I'm fine," I responded with a worried glance. I stood aside and gestured for her to come in. "What's up?"

She came inside and set her backpack down. I swung the door partially closed, grabbed a shirt, and made my way over to stand in front of her.

"Um... I had this... dream that Drusilla was alive," she told me.

I slipped my shirt on. "What happened?" I asked.

She hesitated a little. "She killed you. Right in front of me."

I still didn't understand what she was so worried about. "It was just a dream," I soothed. "It wasn't real."

"But it felt so real," she said with so much emotion I had to resist the urge to hug and kiss her until all the pain went away. It seemed that no matter what I did, I caused her pain. I put my hand to her cheek.

"It wasn't," I said. "I'm right here."

"Angel, th- this happened before," she stuttered a little. "The dreams I had about the Master. They came true."

It was true. Slayer dreams were sometimes prophetic. But it wasn't worth fussing over. If Drusilla was alive, so be it. We had handled her before and we could handle her now. "Still, not every dream you have comes true," I said, trying to reassure her. "I mean, what else did you dream last night? Can you remember?"

She looked down, as if ashamed. "I dreamt..." she started. I wondered briefly if maybe it was better I didn't know, but she continued. "I dreamt that Giles and I opened an office supply warehouse in Vegas."

I smiled a little. Talk about strange dreams. "See my point?"

She let out a sigh. "Yeah, I- I do, but... what if Drusilla is alive?" she insisted. "We never saw her body."

I was starting to get frustrated. "She's not," I said. "And even if she was, we'd deal."

"What if she is..." she started again and I finally gave into my temptation, hoping to distract her. I grabbed her and lowered my mouth to hers in a passionate kiss, which she responded to.

When we finally broke away, I asked, "What if what?"

"I'm sorry," she whispered. "Where we talking?"

I smiled a little, glad it had worked and leaned down again to kiss her again. I truly felt in heaven when I was with her. I didn't know how much longer we would last, but I was determined to make the best of the time we did have. She seemed to sense the emotion I was pouring into the kiss. Suddenly, she broke off and looked down.

"I'm sorry," she said. "I- um. I- I have to go school." She seemed almost ashamed of this fact as she turned to go out the door.

"I know," I said.

Wanting to feel her lips on mine again, I followed her, took her arm and kissed her again. I knew she'd have a hard time leaving after this, but I selfishly wanted to feel her one last time before I saw her again that night. She wrapped her arms around me and I followed suit. We broke off a few moments later, but our foreheads stayed touching.

"Oh, God. You feel..." she started but I didn't let her finish.

"You have to go to school," I told her while guiding her to the door.

"Right," she said. "This is me." She backed into the door, shutting it. "I'm going."

I took her lips again in another passionate kiss. I suddenly felt like a hormonal teen aged boy, but Buffy had the ability to bring out the human in me and I loved her for it. Suddenly remembering that her birthday was the next day, I broke off the kiss.

"You still haven't told me what you want for your birthday," I said.

She smiled. "Surprise me."

"Okay," I said returning the smile. "I will."

I leaned down and kissed her lightly. "This is nice," she told me. "I like seeing you first in the morning."

"It's bedtime for me," I responded.

"Well, then I like seeing you at bedtime," she said. And then, realizing what it sounded like, she gave a nervous chuckle. "Um... um, heh... y- you know what I mean."

I looked at her seriously. "I think so," I said. "What do you mean?" I hoped she meant what I wanted it to mean. I think it did, but I wanted to hear her say it.

She quickly covered up. "I like seeing you. That part at the end of the night where we say good bye, it's getting harder."

I couldn't agree more. It was like I never got enough of her. Apparently, she wasn't ready to say what I had wanted to hear. It didn't matter, really. I'd wait until she was ready. "Yeah, it is."

As the silence started to grow uncomfortable, I kissed her lightly and stepped away. She looked at me questioningly, and I leaned down to pick up her bag. I held it up to her.

"School, remember?" I said.

Groaning, she snatched the bag from my hand. "Fine."

She opened the door and stepped out into the hallway then turned around to me before I could close the door. "See you tonight?" she said hopefully.

I nodded and she leaned forward, kissed me good bye, and left before it could get passionate again. I closed the door behind her, wondering how I could've gotten so lucky. I made my way to my bed, and laid down on it. I was fast asleep before I had anytime to think about anything else.
